Dima Hasao Council to receive Rs 1,014 crore annually from limestone revenue

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that 13 limestone blocks were auctioned to cement companies to boost regional financial autonomy.

The Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC) is expected to receive approximately Rs 1,014 crore every year from limestone mining activities, according to The Sentinel.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the revenue-sharing arrangement, stating that 13 limestone blocks in the hill district have been auctioned transparently to leading cement companies.

Sarma said the auctions are projected to generate about Rs 84,500 crore over 50 years, which translates to an estimated annual revenue of Rs 1,690 crore.

Under the arrangement, 60 per cent of this amount, or around Rs 1,014 crore annually, will go directly to the DHAC.

The Chief Minister described the direct transfer of revenue as an example of genuine autonomy that will strengthen the council's financial independence.

Sarma noted that the mechanism would enable the council to undertake development activities without depending on the state or Central governments for every allocation.
