Police station in-charge killed by truck in Madhya Pradesh
Sub-Inspector Dilip Puri died on Sunday night while attempting to intercept a vehicle suspected of transporting illicit liquor in Dewas.
Khategaon Police Station in-charge Dilip Puri was killed after being run over by a truck on the Harda-Nemawar highway late on Sunday night, according to Telangana Today.
The incident occurred during a police operation in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas district to intercept a vehicle allegedly carrying illicit liquor from Harda to Gujarat via Indore.
Puri, a 2007-batch Sub-Inspector, reached the spot where the truck driver had stopped to drink water. A scuffle reportedly broke out when Puri asked the driver to get down from the vehicle.
The driver allegedly attempted to flee with the truck, causing Puri to fall and be run over by the rear wheel. The truck, registration number MP 43 H 4786, was loaded with liquor.
Dewas Superintendent of Police (SP) Aditya Mishra had formed more than five police teams to intercept the truck, including station in-charges from Kannod and Satwas.
Police have seized the vehicle and arrested the driver. Officials have identified Rahul Jaiswal of Harda in connection with the alleged smuggling network, and an investigation is ongoing.
