Assam Rifles and DRI seize crystal meth worth Rs 40 crore
Three individuals were apprehended in Cachar district during a joint operation to recover 20 kg of crystal methamphetamine.
The Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Silchar, seized 20 kg of crystal methamphetamine at Dholai Bazar in Cachar district on October 30, according to The Assam Tribune.
The narcotics, which have an estimated international market value of approximately Rs 40 crore, were found in 20 packets. The operation was launched following specific intelligence regarding a suspected narcotics consignment.
Authorities apprehended three individuals allegedly involved in transporting the drugs. The team also seized two vehicles and three mobile phones suspected to have been used in the transport of the contraband.
A preliminary assessment suggests the consignment originated in Mizoram and was routed through Silchar, which allegedly served as a transit point for transportation to mainland India.
Assam Rifles claimed this is the first-ever seizure of crystal methamphetamine. The apprehended individuals, the seized drugs, vehicles, and mobile phones have been handed over to DRI Silchar for investigation and legal proceedings.
