Congress blames BJP incompetence for prolonged Manipur crisis
Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that the ruling party's indifference has pushed the border state into a crisis amid fresh violence.
The Congress party on Monday alleged that the BJP's "callous indifference" and "gross incompetence" have pushed Manipur into a prolonged crisis. According to the Deccan Chronicle, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge made these allegations following discussions with senior leaders of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee in New Delhi.
Kharge stated on X that the BJP leadership has sought to evade accountability as the law and order situation deteriorated. He asserted that the people of Manipur deserve peace, stability, dignity and justice, adding that the party aims to end the BJP's "misrule" in the upcoming state polls.
Congress general secretary organisation K C Venugopal claimed that Manipur continues to burn due to ethnic conflict lit by the ruling regime. He noted that the people rejected the BJP in both Lok Sabha seats in 2024.
The allegations come amid fresh violence in the state. On Sunday morning, officials said the mutilated bodies of two missing youths were found in a hilly stretch in Senapati district. Protests also erupted in Kangpokpi district on Sunday night, where agitators blocked roads with logs and boulders.
Since ethnic clashes broke out between Kuki and Naga communities in February this year, more than 50 people have been killed and dozens of houses have been burnt across several districts. Assembly elections in Manipur are slated to take place early next year.
