Coimbatore filmmaker finds festival success through independent director network
Filmmaker Ramakaushalyan Ramakrishnan's debut feature premiered at the 2024 Dharamshala International Film Festival after receiving support from fellow directors.
Ramakaushalyan Ramakrishnan, a filmmaker from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, saw his debut feature, Poem of the Wind, premiere at the 2024 Dharamshala International Film Festival, according to Mint.
The filmmaker initially sent the film to various international film festivals because he did not know how to distribute or screen the work.
After receiving no responses and lacking a community, Ramakrishnan emailed the film to independent filmmakers across India.
The film gained attention when director Parth Saurabh, known for Pokhar Ke Dunu Paar, responded to the email.
The film was then passed to curator-director Bina Paul, who premiered it at the Dharamshala festival.
Ramakrishnan said that he only understood the festival network and programming system after Parth Saurabh became involved.
