Telangana labour department issues notice to Irumudi makers over child actor's welfare
Mythri Movie Makers must provide documents regarding child actor Nakshathra's working hours, safety, and remuneration.
The Telangana labour department has issued a notice to the makers of the Ravi Teja-starrer Irumudi regarding the working conditions of child actor Nakshathra. According to reports from Deccan Herald, Telangana Today, and Hindustan Times, the notice follows a complaint concerning the minor's involvement in production and promotional activities.
C Mahesh Babu, the founder-president of Jai Lok Satta (Social Justice Forum), filed the complaint. The department is investigating allegations that child labour regulations were violated during the film's shooting and promotional events.
The joint commissioner of labour for the Ranga Reddy Zone has scheduled a meeting with the production house, Mythri Movie Makers, for November 4 at Anjaiah Karmika Samkshema Bhavan in RTC X Roads. Producers have been directed to attend with relevant records.
The labour department has sought documents including parental consent, District Magistrate’s permission, attendance, working hours, and safety measures. It has also requested details on educational arrangements and whether 20 per cent of the child actor's remuneration was deposited into a fixed deposit account in her name.
The investigation follows controversy from an August pre-release event where Ravi Teja allegedly used a derogatory term while interacting with the child actor. Officials are expected to examine if the language used during that event affected the minor's dignity and safety.
Irumudi, directed by Shiva Nirvana, was released in theatres on August 21 and is currently streaming on Netflix.
