Goan student starts moringa powder venture from her backyard
Thirteen-year-old Grace de Souza has sold approximately 20 packets of moringa powder since May 1, 2026.
Grace de Souza, a Class 9 student at St Mary’s Convent High School in Mapusa, Goa, has started a small business making moringa powder. According to a report by Mint, the student began using leaves harvested from her family's garden to create the product.
The venture started on 1 May 2026. In just over a month, de Souza sold roughly 20 packets and earned around ₹3,000.
De Souza's mother, Maria de Mello, who runs The Goan Homestead, said the idea belonged entirely to her daughter. De Mello noted that de Souza wanted to make the powder for people who do not have moringa trees at home.
The student's interest grew after observing her mother use moringa leaves in dishes such as dal, soups, khichdi, rice, and smoothies. De Souza researched the nutritional benefits of the leaves, which include vitamins A and C, calcium, potassium, iron, and protein.
The production process involves sorting, drying, grinding, and packing the leaves, which takes approximately three to four days.
