Guwahati to be connected to Delhi via bullet train, says Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the Union Government's decision to extend the North Corridor bullet train project to Guwahati.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday welcomed the Union Government's decision to link Guwahati to the national capital through a bullet train service. According to The Pioneer, Sarma stated that the Centre listens to the requirements of the people.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Saturday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the ‘North Corridor’ of the bullet train project. This route will connect Delhi, Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Patna, Siliguri, and extend to Guwahati.

Sarma noted on social media that the extension of the Northern corridor to Guwahati represents a significant turning point for East India. He mentioned that the journey between Guwahati and Delhi could take less than 8 hours.

The Chief Minister said the corridor was originally intended to finish at Siliguri. He stated that following his written request and a meeting with Ashwini Vaishnaw in July, the proposal to extend the line into the North East was approved.

Sarma expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Vaishnaw for the project. He said the connectivity would provide fast and affordable options similar to flights, creating opportunities for businesses and livelihoods as Assam prepares for high-tech industries.
