Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay directed authorities to initiate legal action to withdraw 65 criminal cases registered against protesters.

The Tamil Nadu government has ordered the withdrawal of 65 criminal cases registered against approximately 1,800 people who participated in protests against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). According to reports by Deccan Chronicle and Hindustan Times, the protests took place across the state between May 10 and July 31 this year.

The government issued an official order directing authorities to immediately initiate appropriate legal action to withdraw the cases. These cases were registered at various police stations and are currently pending at different stages.

An official statement said the details regarding the cases and their current status were brought to the attention of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay. The government is acting as per the instructions of the chief minister to withdraw the cases.

The demonstrations were held to demand the scrapping of NEET, which is the nationwide entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency for medical course admissions. The ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government has backed the demand to scrap the exam.
