Woman climbs water tank in UP after fiance calls off wedding

A 23-year-old woman was rescued by police in Kaushambi after climbing a water tank following a dispute over a call recording.

A 23-year-old woman climbed a water tank in Makhaipur village in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi after her fiance refused to marry her, according to India Today and Times Now.

The woman, identified as Anupama, reportedly travelled nearly four kilometres from her home to the village before climbing the tank.

Anupama was engaged to Awadhesh Kumar, a resident of Sarai Akil town. The dispute between the two reportedly began after a call recording was sent to Kumar, leading to a disagreement and his refusal to proceed with the marriage.

Local residents gathered at the spot and attempted to persuade her to climb down, but she did not respond to their appeals.

Police personnel arrived at the village and spent several hours trying to reason with her. They eventually managed to bring her down safely.

Anupama was taken to the police station for questioning. A police official confirmed she was rescued and later handed over to her family, adding that necessary action is being taken.
