Uttar Pradesh to launch state Quantum Mission to boost technology ecosystem

The state is stepping up efforts to develop artificial intelligence, robotics and advanced technology capabilities.

Uttar Pradesh is preparing to launch a state-level Quantum Mission to develop its artificial intelligence, robotics and advanced technology ecosystem, said Alok Kumar, principal secretary of IT and Electronics, on Friday.

Speaking at the ETGovernment AI Vision Conclave in Lucknow, Kumar said the proposed mission will focus on building capabilities in quantum technology, including quantum computing and communication. The initiative aims to attract investments, expand technology adoption and create opportunities for businesses and startups.

Social Welfare Minister Asim Arun said the state government is working on its AI policy framework and is open to suggestions from technology companies, academic institutions and AI startups. Arun said the government is seeking to reduce the time taken to resolve problems faced by innovators from months or weeks to days.

Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak called for the responsible use of AI, particularly in healthcare, and urged startups to focus on innovations addressing social challenges. He advised against excessive dependence on technology.

Awanish Kumar Awasthi, advisor to the Uttar Pradesh chief minister, urged investors to explore opportunities in the state, noting that zero tolerance for crime is the foundation for investor confidence. Meanwhile, National Stock Exchange managing director and chief executive officer Ashishkumar Chauhan said the NSE is working with the state government to bring more Uttar Pradesh businesses to the stock market.
