Housing Trust Silicon Valley unveils 10-year plan for $30 million gift
The San Jose-based nonprofit will use the unrestricted donation from MacKenzie Scott to expand affordable housing across the Bay Area.
Housing Trust Silicon Valley announced a 10-year strategy on September 30, 2025, to utilise a $30 million donation from MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving fund. The San Jose-based community loan fund aims to turn the one-time gift into long-term housing solutions across the 14-county greater Bay Area.
The unrestricted funding will support five major initiatives, including expanding the core revolving loan fund and piloting new products. The plan also includes extending first-time homebuyer programmes starting in 2026, hiring staff for policy advocacy, launching an impact measurement framework, and investing in housing innovations.
CEO Noni Ramos said the gift allows the organisation to take bold steps and provides the freedom to scale successful models and take risks on new ideas. Ramos previously described the donation, announced on October 2, 2024, as the largest from an individual in the history of the organisation.
Board Chair Lisa Gutierrez, a senior vice president at U.S. Bank, said the plan focuses on building momentum to attract new partners and expand homeownership. She stated the funds will help create and preserve rental housing and strengthen the organisation's capacity.
The announcement coincides with the 25th anniversary of the community development financial institution. Since its founding in 2000, Housing Trust Silicon Valley has invested more than $690 million and helped create over 28,700 affordable housing opportunities.
