Rajasthan: Police seize 22,000 litres of suspected adulterated ghee
Three people were arrested in Sri Ganganagar district during raids at two firms ahead of Diwali.
Police arrested three people and seized 22,138 litres of suspected adulterated ghee worth approximately Rs 1.60 crore in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar district on Saturday. The operation was carried out by the CID Crime Branch, local police, and food safety officials as part of a state-wide crackdown on impure food items.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ram Tayal, Mukesh Kumar, and Vikas Kumar. Authorities also recovered Rs 3.50 lakh in cash, which was allegedly earned from the sale of the product.
During a raid at the Ananya Trading Company warehouse and factory, officials found 16,394 litres of ghee packed under brands including Trisalwa, Bansuri, Shrinand, and Mayra. Recovered items included expired ghee, unlabelled containers, stickers, and a packing machine.
During preliminary questioning, the accused allegedly admitted to repackaging and selling expired or returned ghee with new labels. Police said the group was also suspected of using palm oil and vanaspati from Gujarat to make the adulterated ghee for local dealers.
A second raid at New Vijay Trading Company on Suratgarh Bypass resulted in the seizure of 5,744 litres of suspected adulterated ghee. Food safety officials have collected samples from both locations for laboratory testing to determine further action.
