Rahul Gandhi urges rally participants to shop from local traders

The Leader of Opposition asked people attending the INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan to support Delhi merchants during the festive season.

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has appealed to people attending the INDIA bloc mass rally at Ramlila Maidan to support Delhi’s local merchants. According to Business Today, Gandhi asked supporters to purchase festival items directly from neighbourhood markets.

In a video message posted on X, Gandhi said that lakhs of people are coming to Delhi for the Ramlila March. He noted that Diwali, Chhath, and Bhai Dooj are here and urged people to do a little shopping along with protesting and marching.

The appeal follows concerns from central Delhi market associations, including the Chamber of Trade and Industry and the Federation of Sadar Bazar Traders Association. These groups had requested the opposition coalition to defer the demonstration due to fears that traffic diversions and security restrictions could affect festive business.

Gandhi dismissed claims that the gathering would harm business hubs such as Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazar, and Connaught Place, calling them political rumours. He said the BJP is spreading rumours because it is scared and stated that the rally will not hurt traders.

The INDIA bloc organised the rally at Ramlila Maidan to voice concerns over key political issues and electoral roll revisions. Authorities have deployed extra security and traffic personnel to manage marchers and shoppers in central Delhi.
