Nandini milk and curd prices in Karnataka increase from Sunday

The price revision follows state Cabinet approval to increase the procurement price paid to milk producers by Rs 8 per litre.

Consumers in Karnataka are facing higher costs for Nandini milk and curd following a price revision that took effect on Sunday, November 1, The New Indian Express reported.

The price of toned milk has risen to Rs 54 per litre from Rs 46, while homogenised toned milk moved from Rs 47 to Rs 56 per litre. Homogenised cow milk increased from Rs 50 to Rs 58 per litre.

Special toned milk and Shubham milk now cost Rs 64 per litre, up from Rs 52, and homogenised Shubham milk rose from Rs 53 to Rs 65 per litre. Curd prices also changed, with a 500-gram pouch now priced at Rs 34 from Rs 28 and a one-litre pouch at Rs 68 from Rs 54.

The state Cabinet approved an additional Rs 8 per litre in procurement price for producers following demands for better compensation due to rising costs and drought conditions. This follows discussions between the state government, dairy farmers, milk unions, and Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation (KMF) officials.

Under the new arrangement, the procurement rate increased from Rs 35 to Rs 42 per litre. Farmers will receive Rs 7 of this increase, while milk unions will receive Re 1 for operational expenses like fuel and packaging.

KMF officials indicated that the revision could affect prices for butter, ghee, and buttermilk depending on fat content. The federation procures between 1.05 crore and 1.08 crore litres of milk daily.
