Kerala to become major maritime hub, says CM V D Satheesan

Chief Minister V D Satheesan identified the maritime economy, healthcare, and education as key drivers for the state's economic transformation.

Chief Minister V D Satheesan has outlined an economic agenda to transform Kerala by focusing on the maritime economy, emerging technologies, education, and healthcare. According to The New Indian Express, the government aims to generate lakhs of jobs through the Mission Samudra initiative by 2031.

The Mission Samudra project intends to create an integrated maritime economy. This involves connecting the Vizhinjam International Seaport and minor ports with inland waterways, rail, road networks, logistics parks, and maritime clusters.

Satheesan stated that the government aims to move at least 50 per cent of goods transportation from roads to the sea. He added that cruise shipping and tourism linked to rivers will be included in later phases.

The state also intends to develop its four international airports into a significant aviation hub. To support young people, the government plans to invite investments in robotics, machine learning, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence.

Other planned developments include semiconductor facilities, data centres, and Global Capability Centres. The state also aims to attract international students by building high-standard educational institutions and offering specialised training.

Satheesan noted that the government wants Kerala to become a destination for quality healthcare as well. These goals were shared in his message on the state's 70th formation day on November 1.
