Krishna Byre Gowda launches Ward One initiative in Bengaluru
The Greater Bengaluru Authority will implement a development plan for the Central Silk Board Junction to improve traffic and pedestrian facilities.
Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has directed officials to create a permanent development plan for the Central Silk Board Junction, according to The Hindu. The Minister issued these instructions during a Saturday inspection of the traffic hub.
Mr. Gowda also launched the ‘Ward One’ campaign by starting the painting of flyover pillars. This initiative will be implemented across 43 wards under five city corporations to upgrade ward-level infrastructure and major junctions.
The Minister noted that the junction serves lakhs of daily commuters where the metro, Outer Ring Road, and NHAI elevated road converge. He instructed Greater Bengaluru Authority officials to set aside funds for the area's development.
Proposed amenities for the space under the flyover include seating, recreational areas, a throwball court, and potential table tennis facilities. The plan also includes improved footpaths and a public toilet.
During the visit, Mr. Gowda reprimanded Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board officials after observing sewage entering a stormwater drain. He ordered the installation of a steel grid over the drain and a pedestrian walkway alongside it.
The Minister also called for a new drain to be planned from the junction to HSR Layout to mitigate flooding. This work is to be coordinated with the current white-topping project.
