Karnataka considers official recognition of Kannada flag
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said the proposal will be discussed during the Winter Session of the legislature in Belagavi.
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said on Sunday that the Karnataka government is considering official recognition for the Kannada flag. The matter is expected to be discussed during the Winter Session of the legislature in Belagavi, which begins on November 30.
Shivakumar stated that the government intends to issue an order this month allowing private institutions to fly the flag. He added that the state is also looking into making the hoisting of the Kannada flag mandatory in institutions supported by the government.
The Chief Minister noted that a previous Cabinet proposal had been sent to the Centre but was not approved. He said legal experts have recently discussed the matter and further talks will occur to explore ways to recognise the flag without violating rules regarding the national flag.
Shivakumar mentioned that the red and yellow flag has been accepted by the people. He said the government is committed to bringing legislation to ensure the state flag can be hoisted alongside the national flag.
The Chief Minister also said the state is planning various programmes over the next year to promote the eminence of Kannada. He described the flag as a symbol of Kannada culture, heritage, and peace.
