Karnataka plans mandatory Kannada flag hoisting at government and private offices
Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said the government intends to introduce a legal framework to formalise the practice.
Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has called for government departments and private companies across the state to fly the Kannada flag during November. According to Times Now, this move is part of the celebrations for the 71st Karnataka Rajyotsava.
The Chief Minister stated that a government order is being prepared to ensure private establishments also participate in the celebrations. He said the government would discuss these measures during the upcoming Assembly session in Belagavi before a final decision is made.
Shivakumar noted that the state is preparing initiatives to promote Kannada language and cultural heritage ahead of the 72nd Rajyotsava. He added that guidelines would be created to determine how and where the flag should be displayed.
India Today reported that Shivakumar is committed to granting official state flag status to the Kannada flag. He said the government aims to ensure it is hoisted alongside the National Flag on government buildings.
The Chief Minister mentioned that a previous Cabinet decision to seek recognition from the Central Government did not receive approval. He intends to bring the issue to the Belagavi Assembly session to discuss a legal framework and an official resolution.
Shivakumar also said the government would discuss hoisting the Kannada flag at Vidhana Soudha. He emphasised the importance of protecting the state's language, land, and flag.
