Karnataka Minister rejects claims of Basavasagar water release to Telangana

Minister Sharan Prakash Patil stated that Opposition leaders are making accusations for political gain regarding reservoir water outflow.

Yadgir Medical Education and Yadgir District in-charge Minister Sharan Prakash Patil on Sunday rejected allegations that state authorities released water from the Basavasagar reservoir to Telangana based on verbal instructions, according to The Hindu.

Speaking to reporters in Yadgir, Dr. Patil said Opposition leaders, including former Minister Narasimha Naik (Raju Gowda), were making these accusations for political gain. He questioned how authorities could release water without maintaining proper outflow records.

Addressing a proposed Yadgir bandh on November 6 called by local farmers, the Minister said decisions on Warabandhi restrictions made by the Irrigation Consultative Committee (ICC) are final. He said decisions follow evaluations of reservoir storage, inflow levels, and drinking water requirements.

Dr. Patil also criticised Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy for his recent criticisms of Chief Minister D.K.

Shivakumar, AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Home Minister Priyank Kharge. He claimed Mr. Kumaraswamy engages in hit-and-run politics without substantiating claims.

Regarding a recent sting operation controversy, the Minister said a transparent investigation is underway and those found guilty will face strict action. He also noted that government compensation for farmers affected by drought is being processed for release.

On law and order, Dr. Patil asserted the State government has zero tolerance for illegal sand mining, unauthorised rice transport, and untouchable incidents. He said the district administration and Police Department have been directed to act on complaints immediately.
