India Post to restructure Gujarat administration from 1 November
The new structure will create five new postal divisions and split Ahmedabad into three separate administrative units to improve service speed.
India Post will implement a new administrative structure across Gujarat starting 1 November 2026, according to a report by Urban Acres. The restructuring aims to increase administrative capacity and support a more efficient, technology-based postal network.
The reorganization creates five new postal divisions: Ahmedabad Heritage City, Ahmedabad Utkarsh, Dahod, Surat East, and Gandhidham. Ahmedabad district will now consist of three divisions, including Ahmedabad City, Ahmedabad Heritage City, and Ahmedabad Utkarsh.
The Ahmedabad Heritage City Postal Division was inaugurated at the Ahmedabad General Post Office, while the Postmaster General (Logistics) office opened at Speed Post Bhavan in Shahibaug. These ceremonies were conducted by the Postmaster General of the North Gujarat Region on 31 October.
The North Gujarat Region will now include nine divisions following the movement of the Bhavnagar and Surendranagar postal divisions from the Rajkot Region. These divisions are Ahmedabad City, Ahmedabad Heritage City, Ahmedabad Utkarsh, Gandhinagar, Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Surendranagar, and Bhavnagar.
A separate logistics structure has been established to place postal transport and commercial operations under one arrangement. The new Postmaster General (Logistics) and Director (Sales) offices will oversee the Mail Motor Service, transport services, the Foreign Post Office, and all Railway Mail Service offices in Gujarat.
