Chennai police seek cancellation of Prakash Kanniah's passport

Police have requested the Ministry of External Affairs to revoke the passport of an accused in the Gem Granites POCSO Act cases.

The Greater Chennai Police have written to the Ministry of External Affairs to revoke the passport of Prakash Kanniah. Kanniah is wanted in connection with POCSO Act cases involving Gem Granites owner R. Veeramani.

A senior police officer stated that the request was made to the Regional Passport Officer to prevent the accused from travelling or staying in hotels abroad. The police are also working to issue an arrest warrant to facilitate a Red Corner Notice.

According to police sources, Kanniah is accused of helping the primary accused evade police action and being involved in the money trail. Following these allegations, authorities searched his office and home, and froze bank accounts containing approximately Rs 40 crore.

The investigation involves R. Veeramani, who faces seven POCSO Act cases and a 2004 case involving the abetment of a minor's suicide. The businessman, his associate Shanti, her husband Mahendra Simhan, and five others are currently in Puzhal Central Prison.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) recently conducted an identification parade at Puzhal central prison. Additionally, a Look Out Circular has been issued against Archana Veeramani and four others to stop them from travelling internationally.
