Three arrested for pro-Khalistan graffiti at Delhi Metro stations
The accused allegedly targeted singer Diljit Dosanjh in messages supporting the banned Sikhs For Justice organisation.
Police arrested three people, including a woman, for allegedly defacing Delhi Metro stations with pro-Khalistan slogans, according to the Times of India on Sunday. The graffiti, found at Jahangirpuri and Shastri Nagar stations on October 29 and 30, contained messages targeting singer Diljit Dosanjh.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sumeet, alias Raftar, 30, from Panipat; Sumit Kumar, alias Kaka, 22, from Gurdaspur; and Gurpreet, 22, from Hoshiarpur. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Narra Chaitanya said Sumit Kumar was allegedly the main instigator.
Investigators claimed Sumit Kumar was in contact with Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) sympathisers in Ludhiana and Gurdaspur. An alleged handler reportedly provided graffiti templates via an encrypted messaging app and promised financial rewards for defacing prominent locations.
Sumeet allegedly painted slogans near Gate No. 1 of the Jahangirpuri station and filmed the act for his handlers. Sumit Kumar and Gurpreet allegedly defaced a staircase wall near Gate No. 2 of the Shastri Nagar station.
Two FIRs have been registered at the Metro Azadpur and Metro NSP police stations under the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Public Property Act, 2007, and the Metro Railway (Operation and Maintenance) Act, 2002. Police are investigating a separate incident where Sumit Kumar allegedly painted graffiti near the GTK Bypass on October 30.
