The India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall in Telangana as the cyclonic storm nears the Andhra Pradesh coast.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for six districts in Telangana for November 2 as Cyclone Murasu approaches. According to reports from Mint and The Hindu, the cyclone is expected to cross the South Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur around midnight on November 2 or the morning of November 3.
The orange alert, which indicates heavy to very heavy rainfall, covers Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, and Wanaparthy districts. A yellow alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for Jangaon, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, and Medchal-Malkajgiri.
In Hyderabad, the weather bulletin predicts a partly cloudy sky with light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. Temperatures in the city are expected to range between a maximum of 34C and a minimum of 24C.
The IMD stated that Cyclone Murasu is likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm, with wind speeds of 100-110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph. This weather system follows Cyclone Arnab, which made landfall near Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on October 28.
Odisha has been placed on high alert, with Director of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Manorama Mohanty, stating that rainfall intensity is expected to increase on November 3 and 4. Heavy rainfall is also predicted for parts of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.
