Autorickshaw unions seek fare parity and government intervention in Hyderabad

The Telangana Auto Motor Driver Union and Telangana Auto Drivers Federation have submitted 10 demands to the Transport Commissioner.

Autorickshaw unions in Hyderabad have requested the Transport Commissioner, K. Ilambarithi, to address the gap between official metre rates and the prices set by ride-hailing applications, according to The Hindu.

The Telangana Auto Motor Driver Union and the Telangana Auto Drivers Federation submitted a letter listing 10 demands. The unions are seeking safeguards to protect minimum earnings for drivers and want equality between the two pricing systems.

The unions have asked for a meeting with both autorickshaw and cab unions to discuss social security, welfare, and grievance redressal. They also requested regulations regarding commissions and fees charged by ride-hailing apps.

The groups called for the strict application of the aggregator policy as per the Central Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025. They noted that different apps provide different quotes for the same route.

The unions are seeking a government policy that defines minimum and maximum fares. They also want the regulation of dynamic pricing and the prevention of unauthorised extra charges to ensure fair competition.
