Four die of suspected suffocation in Ujjain hotel waste chamber

The victims were cleaning a food waste tank at Shri Ganga Hotel when the incident occurred on Saturday night.

Four people died of suspected suffocation after entering a food waste chamber at Shri Ganga Hotel on the Ujjain-Dewas Road, according to reports by The Indian Express, Deccan Chronicle and The New Indian Express.

The incident took place around 11 pm on Saturday. The deceased have been identified as Kamlesh Tamboli, Nitin Wahid, Manoj Meena and Wahid Khan.

Ujjain Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma stated that the workers might have collapsed due to gas exposure inside the chamber. He added that gas could have also made the floor slippery, leading to falls.

Ujjain District Collector Raushan Kumar Singh said two individuals initially entered the chamber for cleaning, while two others entered later in an attempt to rescue them.

Two additional people who tried to rescue the workers fell ill and were admitted to a hospital for treatment.

The Madhya Pradesh government has announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh for each of the families of the deceased. An investigation is underway to determine if the workers entered the chamber to clean it or fell in accidentally.
