Sheetal Devi wins two gold medals at Asian Para Games
The para-archer from Jammu and Kashmir secured two golds and one silver at the event in Japan.
Para-archer Sheetal Devi won two gold medals and one silver medal at the 2026 Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Devi retained her women's individual compound title and won the compound mixed team event alongside Toman Kumar.
The athlete also earned a silver medal in the women's doubles event with Payal Nag. Speaking to the Asian Paralympic Committee, Devi said she felt her hard work from previous years was rewarded in one day.
Born without arms in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, Devi uses a unique technique to compete. She employs her foot to hold the bow, her shoulder to pull the string, and a mouth-held aid to release the arrow.
Devi previously won gold in the women's individual compound and mixed team events at the 2023 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou. She also won a bronze medal in the mixed team compound event at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games alongside Rakesh Kumar.
The 19-year-old archer, who was noticed at an Indian Army camp in 2019, has also won a silver medal at the 2023 World Archery Para Championships. She previously secured an individual world title in Gwangju, South Korea.
