Andhra Pradesh CM cancels Delhi visit as cyclone Murasu threatens coast
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu reviewed preparedness on Sunday as a severe cyclonic storm is expected to hit the coast.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu cancelled his Monday trip to Delhi on Sunday due to the threat of a new cyclone, according to reports by ANI, Deccan Chronicle and Telangana Today.
The Chief Minister held a meeting to review government preparedness, rainfall forecasts, and reservoir management as the system, named Murasu, develops in the Bay of Bengal.
Officials stated the depression is expected to become a severe cyclonic storm by November 2 and may reach the coast near Bapatla on the morning of November 3.
Wind speeds during landfall are projected to reach 100-110 kmph, with gusts potentially hitting 120 kmph between Nellore and Narsapur.
Heavy rainfall is forecast for November 3 and 4, with 20 mandals expected to see extremely heavy downpours. These include nine in Eluru, five in Krishna, five in NTR, and one in Bapatla.
The Chief Minister directed officials to issue weather bulletins every four hours and instructed telecom operators to take steps to prevent mobile connectivity disruptions.
Naidu also ordered advance arrangements for manpower and equipment to repair electricity poles, as strong winds could damage between 12,102 and 15,128 poles across 12 districts.
During the meeting, officials briefed the Chief Minister on relief operations following Cyclone Arnab, noting that power in those affected areas should be restored by Sunday night.
