Cyclone Murasu to bring heavy rain to southern Odisha

The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange warning for five southern districts as the cyclone moves towards the Andhra Pradesh coast.

Cyclone Murasu is expected to bring heavy rainfall to parts of Odisha, particularly in the south, over the coming days, according to a report by Deccan Chronicle.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts for November 3 and 4.

While the cyclone is not predicted to make direct landfall in the state, its movement towards the south Andhra Pradesh coast is expected to cause widespread rain and thunderstorms.

The IMD stated that Murasu may intensify into a severe cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal on Monday and cross the coast between Nellore and Narasapur by the morning of November 3.

Wind speeds during landfall are anticipated to be between 100-110 kmph, with gusts reaching 120 kmph.

On Monday, Ganjam and Gajapati districts may see 7 cm to 12 cm of rain at certain locations, while a yellow warning for thunderstorms and rain has been issued for 16 districts.
