Man arrested for allegedly assaulting three-year-old girl in Dattapukur

Arjun Sardar was apprehended on Friday night following the alleged sexual assault of a child in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district.

Police arrested Arjun Sardar, a man in his forties, on Friday night for the alleged sexual assault of a three-and-a-half-year-old girl in Dattapukur.

The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday when Sardar, who was visiting a relative, took the child to a neighbouring house's roof.

The victim's family has lived in a rented house in Subhashnagar for three months, according to police.

A case has been registered against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

Sardar was produced before the Barasat court on Saturday after allegedly confessing to the crime during interrogation.

The police have requested custody of the accused for further investigation.

The child underwent a physical examination at Barasat Medical College and Hospital.

Local residents and the victim's family alleged that the medical examination was delayed for several hours because only one female doctor was available and she was busy.
