Four killed and two injured in Delhi shoe factory fire

Police have apprehended two people and registered a culpable homicide case following the blaze in Mangolpuri.

Four people died and two others were injured after a fire occurred at a shoe factory in Mangolpuri Industrial Area Phase-I, northwest Delhi, on Friday night, according to The Indian Express and The New Indian Express.

The blaze began in the basement of the building at approximately 9:32 pm. Fire officer ADO Paras Kumar stated that firefighters contained the fire within the basement, though heavy smoke caused it to spread upwards.

Six people were rescued in an unconscious state from the premises. One person was found on the third-floor staircase, while five others were recovered from a room on the fourth floor. All four deceased individuals were in that room.

The victims were taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where four were declared dead. The two injured survivors are currently undergoing treatment, reported The Federal.

Delhi police have registered a case of culpable homicide and negligence. Authorities have apprehended two individuals, Suresh Chand of Pitampura and Ashok of Rohini, while others remain absconding.

Outer District DCP Vikram Singh said the factory owner has been summoned. Police are questioning the owner, a contractor, and workers to determine how many labourers were present during the incident.
