TeNA seeks action against illegal groundwater extraction in Tellapur

A delegation led by the Tellapur Neighbourhood Association met a revenue officer to demand the seizure of unauthorised commercial water tankers.

A delegation from the Tellapur Neighbourhood Association (TeNA) met the Tellapur mandal revenue officer on Saturday to demand action against alleged illegal groundwater extraction in the area, according to Telangana Today.

TeNA president Ramana Eshwarigari led the group, which alleged that commercial water tankers are depleting the local water table and causing borewells to run dry.

The association reported that more than 200 high-capacity tankers operate every day along the Tellapur-Osman Nagar (Mayfair Infinity) road. They claimed these tankers extract and transport groundwater for commercial use without authorisation.

Members stated that extraction points are situated near residential buildings, which they say puts thousands of families at risk. The association has called for the immediate seizure of tankers, pumps, motors, and borewell equipment being used without valid permission.

TeNA also requested heavy penalties for those violating rules to protect declining water resources. The group warned that if extraction points are not seized and closed permanently, residents in Tellapur and Osman Nagar will protest to ensure public safety and protect water sources.
