Sharmila shifts daughter's wedding venue after brother Jagan's refusal
Andhra Pradesh Congress president YS Sharmila decided to move the wedding of YS Anjili Reddy to a different location.
Andhra Pradesh Congress president YS Sharmila said on Saturday that she has decided to organise her daughter's wedding at a different venue instead of the Yelahanka house in Bengaluru. According to reports by the Times of India, the decision follows her brother YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's refusal to allow the property to be used for the ceremony.
Sharmila stated on X that the wedding of YS Anjili Reddy and Somala Raghuram Reddy would now take place elsewhere to ensure the event remains free of controversy and disputes. She said it was her responsibility to conduct the marriage in a cordial atmosphere in the presence of relatives and friends.
The venue change comes after YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the YSRCP chief, cited security reasons for refusing to let the Yelahanka Palace be used for the wedding. In a letter, Jagan noted that a wedding would bring many guests and service providers into the residential premises, stating he wanted to ensure his family's safety at his home.
Sharmila defended her ownership of the Yelahanka property, claiming it was allotted 100 per cent to her and her children during the division of family assets after Jagan became chief minister. She said the property was previously a joint family asset but became her share during the apportionment of assets.
The Congress leader expressed sadness that she could not fulfil her daughter's wish to marry at the house where she grew up. She noted the property was the house where her father, YSR, had lived.
