KMF increases milk and curd prices in Karnataka from November 1

The Karnataka Milk Federation has raised milk prices by up to Rs 12 per litre and curd by Rs 14 per litre.

The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has implemented a price hike for milk and curd effective from November 1, according to reports by The Hindu, The New Indian Express and Deccan Herald.

The cost of regular toned milk in blue packets will increase by Rs 8 per litre, rising from Rs 46 to Rs 54. Other varieties face higher increases, with homogenised toned milk rising by Rs 9, while special toned milk and Shubham milk will increase by Rs 12 per litre.

Curd prices have seen a significant rise, with the price for a one kg pouch increasing from Rs 54 to Rs 68. A 500 gram pouch will also increase from Rs 28 to Rs 36.

Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar defended the hike on Saturday, stating it was unavoidable due to drought-like conditions in the state.

He noted that inadequate rainfall has caused shortages of water and green fodder, increasing maintenance costs for dairy farmers.

KMF stated the revision considers the interests of milk-producing farmers and prevailing market prices. Of the Rs 8 hike for toned milk, Rs 7 will be passed to milk producers and Rs 1 to the union.

The state has approximately 26.89 lakh dairy farmer members, with around 8.9 lakh farmers supplying milk to cooperative societies daily. Currently, an average of Rs 28.60 crore per day is paid to milk producers for procurement.
