Language proficiency is vital for nurses seeking overseas jobs, says Minister

Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil stated that communication skills are essential for Indian nursing professionals looking for employment in several foreign countries.

Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil said on Saturday that language skills are essential for Indian nurses and paramedical graduates aiming for jobs in countries including Germany, Japan, Italy and the United States.

Speaking at an awareness programme for the Karnataka State Nursing Council (KSNC) in Kalaburagi, Patil said that language is often the primary obstacle for nursing graduates seeking international employment.

The Minister noted that professionals could obtain high-paying roles by becoming proficient in English and the languages of their target countries, according to The Hindu.

Patil said the government has moved nursing registration and renewal processes to an online format to improve ease of use and transparency. This system allows individuals to access services from home, whereas they previously had to travel to Bengaluru and wait in queues.

The Minister also stated that Karnataka has the highest number of medical colleges and over 15,000 MBBS and postgraduate seats. He said the government is working to expand educational opportunities while maintaining quality.
