Karnataka unveils Rs 5 lakh crore urbanisation plan for 2047
Chief Minister DK Shivakumar launched the Navodaya Karnataka 2047 plan to develop regional economic hubs across the state.
Chief Minister DK Shivakumar launched the Karnataka State Regional Urbanisation Plan 2047, branded as Navodaya Karnataka 2047, at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on October 30. The 20-year plan aims to develop cities and towns to reduce dependence on Bengaluru and create regional economic hubs.
The plan involves an estimated investment of Rs 5 lakh crore, with the state government expected to contribute Rs 1.5 lakh crore. The remaining funds will come from central government support, private investment, and public-private partnerships. Approximately 80 per cent of the investment is expected to be front-loaded by 2032.
The strategy moves towards a polycentric growth model with seven planning regions and eight growth centres, including Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad, Belagavi, Kalaburagi, Ballari, and Shivamogga. Specific projects include an advanced manufacturing hub in Mysuru and an AI data centre park in Mangaluru.
Under an industrial strategy, the state has identified 15 major clusters and proposed 27 new industrial parks. These initiatives are projected to draw Rs 40 lakh crore in industrial investments by 2047. The plan estimates a requirement for nearly 2 lakh acres of industrial land.
Connectivity proposals include upgrading 13,000 km of state highways and 25,000 km of district roads. High-speed rail corridors are also envisioned to connect Bengaluru with Chennai, Mysuru, and Hyderabad, with a possible extension to Mumbai.
