Several injured after two boats collide on Brahmaputra River in Assam
The collision occurred at Bahari Ghat in Barpeta district involving two mechanised passenger boats carrying more than 100 people.
Several people sustained injuries after two mechanised passenger boats collided at Bahari Ghat on the Brahmaputra River in Assam's Barpeta district on October 31.
One boat was travelling from the southern bank of the river toward Bahari Ghat when it hit a second vessel that was stationary at the ghat for passenger boarding.
The collision caused panic among the more than 100 passengers on board. Those injured were taken to Chenga Model Hospital for medical treatment.
Allegations have surfaced that neither of the two boats had life jackets on board, which has raised concerns regarding compliance with water transport safety norms.
The two vessels reportedly departed from Bahari Ghat shortly after the accident took place. The exact number of injured passengers is not yet known.
