Diljit Dosanjh performs in Delhi amid political and security discussions
The singer's Aura Tour concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium followed permission issues and political allegations.
Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh performed at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on Friday night as part of his Aura Tour. The concert featured a drone display of a Punjab map and included songs such as GOAT and a tribute to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
The event date was moved from November 1 to two days earlier after Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney requested the change to respect Sikh families regarding the 1984 anti-Sikh violence. Dosanjh had previously expressed that the 1984 violence is part of a collective subconscious.
The concert faced initial permission refusals from Delhi Police due to security and traffic concerns, which organisers later addressed. The AAP alleged bias against the singer due to his support for the farmers' agitation and his film on Jaswant Singh Khalra, though the BJP rejected this.
During the show, Dosanjh thanked the Delhi Police and saluted a woman CRPF officer from the audience. He addressed his role as a performer, stating he is an artist and asking to remain quiet while expressing support for the people.
The singer's comments followed social media criticism regarding his response to protests by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke had questioned the responsibility of artists to speak on social issues, though he later posted on Instagram asking to move past the matter.
