Delhi Police and bar associations to form joint grievance panel
A coordination committee will be set up to resolve disputes between police personnel and advocates through dialogue, according to The Tribune.
Delhi Police and representatives of the legal fraternity met on October 30 and decided to create a joint coordination committee. The group aims to settle disputes and address grievances between advocates and police officers through dialogue, according to The Tribune.
The meeting included senior Delhi Police officers, the Bar Council of Delhi, the Coordination Committee of All District Bar Associations of Delhi, and executive committee members from various district court bar associations.
The proposed committee will function as an institutional platform at both Police Headquarters and the district level. Nodal officers will be appointed at both levels to manage communication and ensure grievances are resolved in a timely manner.
Under the new arrangement, the relevant Bar Association will be informed when an FIR is registered against a practising advocate, where practicable. Bar associations will also provide digital and physical directories of their members and office-bearers to the district Deputy Commissioners of Police.
The discussions also focused on maintaining professional courtesy and mutual respect. Police officers were urged to show courtesy to advocates at police stations, while advocates were expected to respect police officials within court premises.
