Jammu: Government offices to reopen on November 2 for Darbar Move
The Civil Secretariat and other administrative offices will resume functioning in Jammu on Monday after six months in Srinagar.
The Jammu administration is set to reopen the Civil Secretariat and various government offices on Monday, marking the return of the Darbar Move. According to The Tribune, the city is prepared to host the government machinery after six months of administrative operations in Srinagar.
The Civil Secretariat, which includes the offices of the Chief Minister and ministers, has undergone renovation and maintenance. Authorities have also completed work on government buildings and residential housing for employees.
Civic improvements have been carried out across Jammu, including road repairs, blacktopping, and cleaning footpaths. Security has been increased, with police and paramilitary personnel deployed at vital installations and key areas.
Offices following a five-day work week closed in Srinagar on October 30, while those on a six-day schedule finished work after October 31. The Omar Abdullah-led government restored the Darbar Move in October 2025.
The practice was originally introduced by Dogra rulers in 1872 to avoid harsh winters in the Kashmir Valley. It was discontinued in 2021 by the Lieutenant Governor-led administration to save costs and transition to e-offices.
