West Bengal CM threatens to reopen Nandigram and Chhoto Angaria cases

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari accused the CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress of collaborating to revive political violence in the state.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said on Saturday that he would reopen investigations into the 2007 Nandigram violence and the 2001 Chhoto Angaria massacre. Speaking at a ‘Save Democracy’ rally in Garbeta, Adhikari warned that those involved in these incidents would not be spared, according to The Indian Express.

The Chief Minister claimed that individuals had moved from the CPI(M) office in Garbeta to Nandigram carrying guns during the 2007 anti-land acquisition movement. He stated his intention to reopen crime files from the Left Front era regarding these events.

Adhikari accused the CPI(M) and the Trinamool Congress of merging to bring back anarchy and political unrest to the state. He also mentioned an alleged assault on BJP MP Pranata Tudu during the 2024 elections and requested a copy of the FIR to examine arrests.

The Chief Minister recalled an alleged attack on him at Chandrakona Road while returning from Purulia. He also mentioned a past confrontation with former CPI(M) minister Sushanta Ghosh, claiming party leaders had previously threatened him.

The Chhoto Angaria massacre involved the alleged killing of 11 TMC supporters by CPI(M) workers in Paschim Medinipur district on January 4, 2001.
