Weather system in Bay of Bengal to bring rain to Kerala
The India Meteorological Department predicts heavy rainfall in Kerala and coastal Andhra Pradesh starting from Sunday, November 1.
Rainfall activity is expected to resume in Kerala for several days starting Sunday, November 1, due to a weather system in the Bay of Bengal, according to The Hindu.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that a low-pressure area has formed over the South Andaman Sea and nearby Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This system is expected to become a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea and islands on Saturday, October 31.
Weather models suggest the system could intensify into a cyclonic storm by Sunday or Monday while moving toward the Andhra Pradesh coast. If it becomes a cyclone, it will be named Murasu, a Tamil word meaning ‘drum’.
Heavy rain is predicted for the Ghat regions and certain parts of Kerala. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki for Sunday.
On Monday, the yellow alert will extend to four districts, including Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and parts of the Southern Peninsula are also expected to see heavy rainfall.
