Man attacks two schoolgirls with chainsaw in Andhra Pradesh school
A Class 10 student is in critical condition after a man allegedly attacked her and another student with a chainsaw.
A man allegedly entered a classroom at Zilla Parishad High School in Raptadu, Anantapur district, and attacked two Class 10 students with an electric tree-cutting chainsaw on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Hemanth, also known as Dummu, was arrested by police at Dharmavaram Railway Station after fleeing the scene.
One student sustained serious injuries to her face, head, and body and is undergoing surgery at Anantapur Government General Hospital, while a second student was injured while attempting to intervene.
School principal K Rajeshwari said the man was mistaken for a construction worker because work was in progress on the premises, which led staff to allow him entry.
Anantapur Rural Sub-Divisional Police Officer K Ashwin Manideep said the accused is believed to be a distant relative of one of the victims and that a case has been registered.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu described the incident as a barbaric attack and directed officials to ensure the injured students receive the best possible medical treatment and stringent legal action is taken.
