Rajasthan orders official records update after Kota instructor transitions gender

The state government has recognised the female-to-male transition of a physical training instructor employed at a government school in Kota.

The Rajasthan government has directed that official records be updated to reflect the gender transition of a physical training instructor in Kota, according to The Hindu.

The 27-year-old instructor, who works at a government school, has transitioned from female to male following gender surgery and will now use a male name.

The state education department issued an order on Wednesday, October 27, 2026, to notify the change and update relevant records.

The instructor requested the name and gender change under Rule 8A of the Rajasthan Service Rules, 1991, citing relevant government provisions.

The government stated the decision follows procedural guidelines in the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act and Rule 8A of the Rajasthan Service Rules, 1951.

District Education Officer (Secondary) Ramcharan Meena and DEO (Elementary) Roop Singh Meena confirmed the directive was issued.

All future official correspondence and departmental duties will address the teacher by his new male name once all legal protocols are fulfilled.
