CM Majhi announces Rs 120 crore development projects for Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj

The Chief Minister laid foundation stones for three lift irrigation schemes to benefit 4,280 hectares of farmland by 2028.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced several development initiatives for the Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts on Saturday. According to The New Indian Express, the Chief Minister laid foundation stones for three mega lift irrigation projects at Raikala, Satikudar and Jarakani, valued at approximately Rs 120 crore.

These irrigation schemes are expected to be finished by 2028 and will cover 4,280 hectares of farmland. The projects will serve the Jarakani area of Mayurbhanj and various villages within the Jhumpura and Keonjhar blocks.

During a public meeting at Raikala, Majhi stated that these works would allow farmers to move from single-crop patterns to harvesting two or three crops every year. He added that the projects represent a revolutionary step toward making dry lands productive.

The Chief Minister also announced a Rs 24 crore sports complex and a Rs 30 crore residential school for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students in Keonjhar. Additionally, he confirmed that the Kanupur irrigation project in Keonjhar will be formally inaugurated in December.

Other developments included the inauguration of the Rs 17.97 crore Jhumpura community health centre and a new State Bank of India branch in Raikala. Majhi noted that the government aims to provide irrigation to an extra 15 lakh hectares over the next five years.

The Chief Minister mentioned that Rs 14,500 crore has been allocated for irrigation in the current Budget. He said the government has already completed six inter-basin reservoir projects and renovated 1,022 existing check dams.
