Thousands attend Marathi music concert in Hyderabad

The Swar Deepawali event at Kondapur's Botanical Garden featured singer Madhura Datar and veteran anchor Sudhir Gadgil.

Thousands of people gathered at the Botanical Garden in Kondapur, Hyderabad, this weekend for Swar Deepawali, a Marathi music concert presented by Tatvaa Arts, according to The New Indian Express.

The event featured singer Madhura Datar, who trained under the late Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. Datar performed Marathi songs, including a rendition of Reshmachya Reghani, as well as Hindi numbers such as Aao Huzoor Tumko and Piya Bawari.

DGP Mahesh Bhagwat attended as the chief guest. Commenting on Datar's performance, Bhagwat said that with Mangeshkar and Bhosle no longer present, the closest one can get to hearing their music is through singers like Datar.

Datar told the press that she has visited Hyderabad five or six times and noted that the audience knows every song and lyric. She added that she has also tried performing Telugu songs for the listeners.

The programme was hosted by veteran anchor Sudhir Gadgil. Accompanying musicians included Amey Thakur Desai on tabla and handsonic, Siddharth Kadam on octapad and dholak, and Zankar Kanade and Sagar Temghare on keyboards.

Sunita M Bhagwat, an IFS and additional principal Chief Conservator of Forests, was also present. Her department served as the venue partner for the morning event.
