Sachin Tendulkar praises Joe Root as he nears Test run record

The Indian cricket legend expressed high regard for the England captain during a recent Reddit session.

Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has lauded England captain Joe Root as the batter approaches the record for the most runs in Test cricket, according to reports by The News Mill and The Tribune.

During a Reddit Ask Me Anything session on November 3, Tendulkar noted that he had held the Englishman in high regard since Root's initial appearance in a Test match.

Root has currently accumulated 14,278 runs in 169 matches, leaving him 1,643 runs behind Tendulkar's career total of 15,921 runs.

The England captain first played a Test match against India in Nagpur in December 2012, where he scored 73 runs in the first innings and finished 20 not out in the second during a drawn match.

When discussing his preferred non-Indian batters, Tendulkar mentioned Root, Harry Brook of England, and Steve Smith of Australia.

Tendulkar also proposed a change to the One-Day International (ODI) format, suggesting the 50-over game be split into two 25-over innings per side while maintaining 10 wickets and using one ball to better balance the game.
