Vote counting begins for 92 urban local bodies in Andhra Pradesh

The State Election Commission has deployed 47,817 personnel across 138 centres to oversee the counting process.

Counting of votes for 92 urban local bodies in Andhra Pradesh began on Tuesday, according to reports by ANI and The Pioneer. The process covers 13 municipal corporations and 79 municipalities and nagar panchayats across the state.

The State Election Commission (SEC) has made arrangements at 138 centres, including 556 counting halls and 6,831 counting tables. To ensure transparency, the SEC has installed 1,372 CCTV cameras in counting halls and strong rooms.

The elections were held on November 1, with repolling conducted on November 2 where required. An overall voter turnout of 62.16 per cent was recorded, with 60,22,411 votes cast out of a total electorate of 96,89,061.

In the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation mayoral contest, Jana Sena candidate Vangaveeti Radhakrishna, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) candidate Rayana Bhagyalakshmi, and independent candidate A B Venkateswara Rao are in the fray.

The YSRCP has alleged irregularities during the polling in Pulivendula. YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy met the Returning Officer to submit a representation, alleging that approximately 70 YSRCP polling agents were not allowed to enter polling booths.

Reddy also questioned a discrepancy in Pulivendula, where the party alleged 681 votes were recorded under the 'Others' category despite the official voter list having only 14 voters in that category.
