Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel dies after on-field collision

The 30-year-old forward passed away on Tuesday following a head and chest injury sustained during a match against Andorra.

Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel died on Tuesday morning following a serious injury during a Spanish second-division match against Andorra, according to BBC News.

The 30-year-old forward sustained head and chest injuries during a collision with goalkeeper Jesus Owono on Monday. The incident occurred seven minutes into stoppage time while the teams were drawing 2-2.

Owono was shown a straight red card for the challenge before the referee abandoned the match. Spanish media outlet Marca reported that De Miguel experienced a cardiac arrest in the ambulance and was revived by paramedics while being transported to the hospital.

While CD Tenerife described his condition as stable but serious on Monday, a further update on Tuesday morning stated his neurological condition had worsened. He passed away at 08:00 local time.

CD Tenerife released a statement expressing heartbreak over the tragic death and stated they stand with his grieving family. The club also requested privacy for his loved ones during this time.

Andorra, which is co-owned by former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, said they were devastated and sent sincere condolences to the family, teammates, and CD Tenerife.
