Suspended jailor alleges former Odisha Prison DG pressured him to frame inmate

Pradipta Kumar Mahalik claims he was suspended in 2017 after refusing to plant drugs on an inmate in Balasore District Jail.

Suspended Balasore Jailor Pradipta Kumar Mahalik has levelled allegations against former Director General (DG) of Prisons Sushant Nath, according to Pragativadi.

In a formal letter to the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, Mahalik alleged that Nath and other officials pressured him to plant brown sugar on an inmate, Rajib Lochan Das, at the Balasore District Jail to falsely frame him in a police case.

Mahalik asserted that he refused to execute the plan despite being offered promotions, prizes, and monetary rewards by the former DG.

The jailor claimed that following his refusal and subsequent illness caused by severe stress, he was arbitrarily suspended by the DG on October 17, 2017.

Mahalik has requested the Home Department to review and revoke the suspension order, describing the action as unethical, illegal, and malicious.

He is seeking reinstatement to his former posting at the Balasore District Jail.
